Keeping Sane with Hobbies During a Pandemic
I have had a chance to revisit my childhood love of knitting over the last 360+ days. I went to a yarn convention the last week of February 2020 and bought enough to make about 10 sweaters. I mentally was preparing for a long pandemic, but was hoping it was just a three month thing. I completed 3 short sleeved sweaters (I get bored by the time I get to the sleeves), one swancho (sweater poncho hybrid), and numerous hats. I also knitted little Among Us figures for my son.
Fast forward to 2021. We received so many Instagram messages about our collection of Maileg toys (https://shoptselaine.com/collections/maileg-toys) that we have sold in our store for over a decade. Little did we know that the popularity of dollhouses and the Maileg mice that inhabit these detailed miniature worlds had exploded during the pandemic! And, I fell down that rabbit (ahem, mouse) hole!
I have an endless supply of bits of yarn and sparkly objects. So, I started making mouse couture. It reminded me of my childhood. Endless hours of creating with fiber and bits of paper.
I had a dream of writing a knitting pattern and posting it on the popular Ravelry site! Well... I am about to do it with Mama Mouse's Mousechino Couture Bonnet! (Here's the pdf if you want to make one yourself: file:///home/chronos/u-172113bda3e8daf47b5c5a0828f461a9c06c209f/MyFiles/Downloads/Mama%20Mouse's%20Couture%20Bonnet%20.pdf)
Here's to staying sane while waiting for a vaccine.
Cheers!
